This year, in support of International Women’s Day, various community organizations have grouped together to plan and coordinate events and activities that will take place during the week leading up to International Women’s Day, beginning March 3rd, 2013 and ending on International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2013.
We, the planning committee, are very excited to take part in a community-led event that is working collaboratively for a common cause. We want our community to see our united front in fighting for women’s equality, rights and the women’s role in the prosperity of our community.
To parallel the United Nations theme, this years’ International Women’s Week theme will be “Gaining Momentum in Our Community”. By keeping it broad, the theme could easily be applied in your respective organization or group (i.e. Gaining Momentum in HIV Prevention, Gaining Momentum in Women’s Equality, Gaining Momentum in Mental Health, etc.,).
Throughout the week, you can expect a variety of events led by specific agencies all of which are meant to empower women in fighting for equality. We are hoping to reach out to all women, of all races, religions, ethnicity, ages, abilities, cultures, ALL women.
Stay tuned for a calendar of events as we are currently creating it based on community interest and participation.
Should you want to host/create an event, let me know by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling me at 705.688.0500 ext. 214.
Otherwise, we are hoping to see you there! (And yes, men are also welcome to participate as allies to women's rights and equality)
